Testimonials & other stuff

I know that many people are more than a little wary of buying such expensive items as collectable wristwatches over the internet from a person you may never have met. In an attempt to allay some of these fears I am setting out some letters & e-mails I have received from my clients. If anyone wishes, I will be happy to provide the e-mail addresses.

This first letter shown below is from the second person ever to buy a watch from my site, about a year ago.

I bought my first 'interesting' watch from James Dowling. A beautiful red

gold, 1920's, Dunkling's Rolex. It was the first Rolex I had ever bought. It

was also the first watch I had ever bought over the Internet. Whatever

nervousness I might have had was completely unfounded. And, as I discovered,

should a problem occur, James will resolve it. No one could or would have

done more. I still have the Dunklings. Thanks to James and his efforts, it

is still one of my treasures.+ACI-

The following letter comes from someone who bought a watch from me only a few weeks ago. Interestingly, as with the previous correspondent, it was his first "net" purchase.

Dear Mr. Dowling;

I have just completed my first "net deal". It is also my first dealing with you and my first attempt at international wire transfer. Many firsts and much learning.

Before I describe the details let me give you some personal background I neglected to share with you earlier. For the past five (5) years I have made my living as a professional speaker and consultant to the home building industry in the United States. My most requested programs are Leadership Development and Customer Service & Satisfaction. Thus the concepts of Customer Service are quite close to my heart.

My Buying experience from the very beginning was first rate. Even before direct contact was made the pictures and descriptions of the inventory was clear and obviously written by someone with time proven knowledge. The paragraphs were concise pictures of the history of the watch and not just spec sheets. I also appreciated the snippets of honesty on the collectabiity of individual watches.

The most important aspect of the direct contact was the speedy reply's and detailed explanations. I am not quite sure just when you sleep because I would get reply's to my afternoon (CST) e-mails the same day. The tenor of the reply's was always that of patience. Some of my questions must have seemed to be trite, but the answers were thoughtful and detailed. I did not feel like I was being sold a mere watch, more I had the opportunity to own a bit of unique history. By virtue of the frequent e-mails I also felt like an important and valued customer. Many of your watches were substantially more expensive than my white face Omega and yet I do not know how you could have invested more time in me.

I also appreciate the fact that you took the time to listen to my quest for a White gold Sports watch and not just dismiss me out of hand. There are those that would have looked only at the short term sale and not recognized the long term customer facet.

All and all it was a very satisfying experience from the education to the arrival of the safely packaged and perfectly described watch. Bravo Zulu,

I hope to do it again

Thanks again

PS This experience will become a sage story in my CS repertoire.

On March 30th, Gerard who runs a watch shop in The Hague, Holland was kind enough to post the following on TimeZone after purchasing a watch from me.

Hi, I bought a beautiful Omega Speedmaster Pro MarkII from James Dowling. I'm very happy with the watch as well the condition it's in and James' fast and excelent service. Just wanted you all to know :-) Gerard

This is from a gentleman who bought a pocket watch from me which then had a problem;

James,
I have been a passionate watch collector for many years. I have always taken great pleasure in owning the newest, biggest, rarest or most complicated watch on the block. However, the 1930's Rolex Railroad Pocket Watch which I purchased from you is really something very special. With it's engraving of a locomotive on the back, and it's flawless procelain dial, I picture myself on the Orient Express timing my way from Paris to Istanbul.

When I noticed, upon arrival, that the watch was not keeping proper time, you expeditiously and graciously arranged for it to be corrected by my choice of watchmaker. The watch is now working really well. Not only did you offer me the product that I truly wanted, but also the service to ensure that it met all my expectations.

For this, I extend my sincere thanks.

I would write more, but M. Hercule Poirot has informed me that they are serving a very select Darjeeling in the club car. Ta Ta.

This most recent email came from a gentleman in the north east of the US who bought a military watch from me just prior to end of 2000.

James,

It has been a genuine pleasure dealing with you during the recent purchase of my
military watch.  In addition to the fact that I was able to locate a unique and
verified specimen of the timepiece I was seeking, I found your prompt attention
to detail, immediate reply to any and every question and uniformly gracious
business attitude a real refreshment.  I thought the printed and signed excerpt
on the watch a particularly nice touch!

Thanks again,

Keith Comess

This latest email is from a gent in the US who bought an IWC from me in November 2001.

Dear James,

I just wanted to say what a pleasure it has been to purchase my limited edition IWC Mark XII watch from you.  You made the entire purchase process informative and enjoyable. The watch arrived as expected, in fine working and aesthetic condition, exactly as you had advertised. I truly wish to thank you for making this once in a lifetime opportunity come true. Good luck to you in all future horological and watch - collecting endeavors!

Sincerely,
