This is a model 971 Sterling Silver flared Prince, with case numbered 02814, dating from 1930.
The big flared model has always been the most desirable configuration of the Rolex Prince and this is a nice early one. It has a lovely original dial, which is three-tone silver with an outer mirrored frame, full black Arabic numerals, large subsidiary seconds dial and the three hands are blued steel.
The movement is signed “Observatory quality”, and is also engraved “Timed to 6 positions for all climates”; the movement itself is the classic early 15 jewel version without the protective balance guard but it does have the very desirable aluminium dust cover and is numbered 72309.
The case is in very good condition and there are no signs of any case repairs, however there is a small amount of wear in one of the top corners. As expected the numbers inside the case top match those on the outside of the case bottom. The case bottom has a Glasgow import hallmark, dating the watch to 1930.
The case is 90% whilst the movement, protected inside the dust cover is 95% and the dial is 85%.
The watch measures 36mm long 44mm lug to lug, 9mm high it is 22mm wide and takes a 20mm strap and a new black padded strap has been fitted.
