IWC Steel Beta 21 on original ‘Oyster’ bracelet

Like all of the Beta 21 watches, this is a massive piece, measuring 44mm lug to lug, standing over 13mm proud of the wrist and weighing over 100 grammes.
After Omega, IWC were one of the major users of the Beta 21; using it not only in the limited edition DaVinci model but also in this oversized tonneau case (known as ‘The International’) and even in a pocket watch.

It has a two piece case with a stepped integral bezel and a back held on with 4 screws; the original winder has the IWC ‘fish’ symbol, indicating it is (supposedly) waterproof; but I wouldn’t dare take this watch near water.

This is the second one of these I have owned, but the first one with its original bracelet. Incidentally, the case numbers on the two watches are less than 300 apart; which tends to confirm that these were a comparatively low production model, even in steel. The case is numbered 1995121.

The dial is two tone silver with applied steel batons for the hour markers, applied steel frame around the date window & heavy applied IWC logo below the double hour markers at 12. The hands are parallel white gold baton ones with a thick black enamel stripe along their length.

The classic 13 jewel Beta 21 movement is signed IWC as well as CEH (who actually made it).

The case is 90%, the dial is 95+% and the movement is in 95+% condition.

It measures 38mm long, 35mm wide, 46mm lug to lug and 13mm high it takes a 20 mm strap and is on its original double signed ‘Oyster’ bracelet.
