This is a classic example of the late cushion “Oyster” in chromed nickel and stainless steel with an gorgeous cream dial, probably made in 1936.
It has a gorgeous matt cream dial, with an outer railroad track for the minute markers, black printed full Arabic numerals with the script “Rolex Oyster” just below the 12. The subsidiary seconds dial is sunk with an outer railroad seconds track with each 10 seconds interval indicated by complete numbers. The watch also has the original blued steel non luminous “leaf” hands.
As a late version of the Oyster it has both the flat bezel and the fixed lugs, both of which make the watch much more modern than the earlier milled bezel and wire lugs. The case body is chromed nickel but the case back is stainless steel, Rolex introduced these after the earlier all chromed cases experienced serious case back pitting.
The movement is an early version of the second generation 15 jewel 10½ calibre which is signed “Rolex 15 Rubies” and “Swiss Made Fab Suisse”. The movement is protected by a metal dust cap which fits under the screwed case back.
The case is 90%, whilst the movement & dial are both 90+%.
Diameter 31.6mm; Lug-to-Lug 37.5mm; Height 10mm. It takes a 16mm strap and a new pigskin one is fitted.
