Omega Flightmaster cal 911 ref 145.036 in superb condition with both boxes, guarantee and instructions. The watch is unlike 95% of the Flightmasters that I have seen, in that it is in excellent condition, it hasn’t fallen prey to the usual problems that they suffer, the unpolished case retains its original finish, the glass is completely scratch free (although there is a minute ding to the edge of the glass at 6:30), all the paint on the buttons and crowns is still there and both the dial and hands are as bright as the day that they left Bienne. The only problem is a small dent into the outer surface of the clasp. This is a perfect sized watch for today, but at 43mm diameter and 53mm long it was huge when new at the turn of the 1970s. There were two versions of the watch, the normal one with Red chronograph hands as shown in the instructions and the special order professional one with cadmium yellow chronograph hands for use by commercial pilots who often fly at night. In order to preserve their night vision the cockpit is lit with a soft red light and this makes reading the conventional red hands very difficult.
The movement is the calibre 911, which is essentially a calibre 861 as used in the Speedmaster with an additional 24 hour function, it has 17 jewels, Incabloc shock protection, 44 hour power reserve and has a pink gilt finish.
The dial is gorgeous and untouched with a running seconds at 9, 12 hour register at 6 and 30 minute register at 3. It has a matt black finish on the inner rotating bezel, whilst the main dial has a matt grey finish. The minute/seconds track is in a black & white checkerboard effect. It has the rare and unusual cadmium yellow hands.
The case, bracelet, dial & movement are all 95%.
Diameter 43mm; Lug to Lug 52mm; Height 15.65mm., and the unique bracelet is still fitted.
